We’re in hurricane prep mode here. I’ve got my BRAND! NEW! KINDLE! (which, PS, let’s talk about how awesome Amazon is – I ordered it from my account and it came registered with all of my old stuff archived. Amazing.) charging up. I look forward to the irony of reading the Kindle by candlelight.
I’m also pre-cooking three days worth of food as it turns out that our gas stove has electric ignition and there’s no way to get to the pilot light. Very glad that I figured this out NOW. Also, doing all of our laundry and cleaning the tub to fill with water. Nuno believes I’m over-preparing… since I’m getting ready for three days without power, I hope he’s right.
We’re 70 miles inland, but I’ve experienced hurricanes in New England that took down trees and knocked out power and this one looks to hit us more directly than any in recent memory.
For his part: Nuno is watching Netflix. We all prepare in our own ways, I suppose and I’m pretty ok with this as it means I can pass him the baby that Young Sir might be entertained while I frantically do things involving boiling water.
While we are in no way in as much danger as those directly along the coast (and my good thoughts are with all of my friends in harm’s way), wish us luck anyhow. This area was already hit by a tornado this summer, so to say that we really don’t NEED a hurricane is an understatement.
PS: Since posting this, we just received the furniture we had delivered from Ikea, so I guess we’ve got plenty to do when we lose power. Perhaps we can even FINISH unpacking!
